Every year on Epiphany Sunday, my church gives out stars. It is known as “Star Sunday” as each member randomly draws a star out of a basket. When they turn over their star, they find a word that is supposed to help guide them for the new year.
A New You for the New Year: Creating Resolutions that Last
It is common for people to ring in the new year by creating a list of habits, experiences, or overall changes that they want to establish over the next twelve months. We call them resolutions and people always seem eager to share their lists.
These lists are usually related to weight, finances, reading habits, etc.
“I’m going to lose weight;” “I’m going be better at spending money;” “I’m going to read more books.”
We often find ourselves quitting our New Years resolutions within the first three months stating, “there’s always next year.”
So how do we create resolutions that are actually going to stick?
I Failed Parallel Parking
The result of my twenty point turn into the gap between the cones resulted in me sitting perfectly between the left two cones and about two feet away from the makeshift curb to the right of the car. I had failed.

If you had a pain in your body, where would it be that would just drive you crazy?
For me, that’s easy. It’s the same place that even the thought of an appointment for this body part sends me in an incredible state of anxiety.

What does comfortable mean to you?
To me, it means a feeling of being relaxed, calm, and unrestricted. Things that make me feel uncomfortable? Anxiety, depression, fear, insomnia, small talk, wedgies, my socks falling down as I walk, skin so dry that it itches like crazy, and having my top knot resting too tightly on my head.
